Anthony Harvey appeared in private at Oban Sheriff Court

A 59-year-old man has appeared in court accused of addressing a meeting to encourage support for the proscribed organisation Palestine Action.

Anthony Harvey, from London, appeared in private at Oban Sheriff Court to face a single charge under the Terrorism Act 2000.

He made no plea and was granted bail. The case was continued for further examination.

Palestine Action was proscribed as a terror group by the UK government in July after police said members broke into RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire and caused an estimated £7m of damage to planes.

Membership or support for Palestine Action is now a crime that can lead to up to 14 years in jail.

Police Scotland said officers executed a warrant in the Oban area on Tuesday.
