Google relaunched the Androidify app today, bringing back a beloved tool for generating social media avatars. The original app was popular for a time but was eventually retired as the classic bugdroid design grew dated. After Google’s new 3D ‘Bot’ design breathed new life into the Android mascot, fans wondered when they could create the same custom designs used by some Googlers. The new Androidify app lets you do just that, creating a fully personalized Bot from a single photo. Google gave me early access to try it out, and here’s how it went.
Before I show you my custom Bot, I recommend reading my other article covering the launch of Androidify. Since it already explains how to use the app and how it works under the hood, I’m not going to rehash those details here. Instead, I’ll just show you what the app is capable of.
First, here’s a photo of myself that I gave to Androidify:

And here’s the Android Bot it created for me:

I think it captured my look quite nicely. My skin tone, hair, shirt color, and badge are all reflected well in my Bot avatar. Sure, a few details aren’t 100% accurate, like the shape of my glasses or the shirt logo, but it still captured my overall vibe. Plus, the result looked even better once I added a background.
Here’s my Android Bot with the Jetsetter, Music Lover, Stargazer, and Fandroid backgrounds:
My personal favorite is the Fandroid background, which I’ll be using as my profile picture on social media for a while.
