Song submissions have opened for Montesong 2025, to select Montenegro’s Eurovision 2026 entry.

Montenegrin boradcaster, RTCG, has officially opened song submissions for Montenegro’s national final, Montesong 2025, with the deadline for submissions set for October 3. For a second year in a row, Montenegro will select their Eurovision entry through Montesong, with the winner flying the flag of the Balkan nation in Vienna in 2026.

All interested songwriters and artists can submit their entries to the broadcaster, being given a month to put forward entries until the deadline of October 3. RTCG goes on to state:

Montesong is not just a music competition, it’s a festival of creativity that gives new momentum to the local and regional scene. We want to hear new voices, but also to provide space for established musicians to show how rich and innovative the Montenegrin scene is.

The intention of Montesong is to bring wider exposure to Montenegrin artists domestically, as well as flowing into a wider intention of showcasing Montenegro’s artistry and music to a European and International audiences through their Eurovision participation.

Applications for Montesong 2025 can be sent via mail or relevant materials can be handed over to RTCG archives. It is expected all submitted entries are of the song’s final version. The lyrics, artists’ biography and information on songwriters must also be sent over.

Other necessary points for submission are listed below:

All songs must be original and must not have been publicly revealed before September 1st 2025.
All entries must be within the 3 minute timeframe.
Artists must have Montenegrin citizenship.
Relevant and complete documentation must be delivered physically to RTCG, in accordance with specified technical and procedural conditions of the competition.

The winner of Montesong 2025 will be determined by an expert jury and SMS voting. A selection committee formed of music creators and performers will select the competing entries. The committee will assess the songs within 10 days of the end of the song submission period. The committee will assess the songs on:

Composition – up to 50 points
Lyrics – up to 30 points
Production potential – up to 20 points

Up to 16 songs will be chosen to compete in Montesong 2025, with a song needing to score a minimum of 75 points from the committee to receive a place in the contest.

Nina Žižić represented Montenegro at Eurovision 2025 with “Dobrodošli”. She placed last in Semi-Final Two, scoring 12 points, all of which came from the Serbian televote.

Montenegro debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest as an independent country in 2007 and participated until 2010, when they withdrew for financial reasons, Montenegro returned to the contest in 2012. Montenegro failed to qualify for the grand final until 2014, Sergej Ćetković and his song “Moj svijet” placed 19th in the final. Their best result came a year later, when Knez performed “Adio” in Vienna and finished 13th in the final. Montenegro has participated intermittently between 2019 and 2025, with withdrawals from 2020 to 2021 and from 2023 to 2024.
