Father-and-son team of Amrik and Krishan Rajput are legendary in the area – and the off licence they run is now officially one of the best in the country.
With over 500 spirits and up to a thousand beers, spoilt for choice is an understatement when you walk into their Birmingham shop.
Last month, Stirchley Wines & Spirits was named among the eight best independent beer shops by the Sunday Times, something which came as a shock to Krishan.

Speaking to BirminghamLive, he said: “I was more than shocked. We were told to send pictures over but we didn’t know what it was about.
“The Sunday Times is peak recognition in terms of being seen by the public and one of the biggest deals.

“The feedback has been great, I think it’s a slow burn and hope people might think of us when they come to Stirchley.
“The awards are important, but so is the people coming through the door. They are the most important thing at the end of the day and as good as it gets.”
Since the shop opened in 1979, Stirchley has underwent a number of transformations and seems to be thriving with a number of quality independent businesses.
Last year, The Times named Stirchley the best place to live in the Midlands and Krishan has noticed the level of standard within the neighbourhood.
He added: “The local breweries here are a fortunate situation for us and turned up because of the opportunities in Stirchley.
“The good thing about that is the level and quality from them is above par.
“The food and drink businesses in Stirchley haven’t just turned up either, they’ve brought their A game to the area. That’s good because that’s part of our ethos too.
“At the heart of what we do, we’re an off licence. We sell beer, we sell wines, we sell cider and we sell spirits, those are our four corners.
“What we’re very good at is beer, that’s what we’ve put most of our time into.
“What we do isn’t perfect, but at the end of the day, we try our hardest to do the best job we can.”
