MADRID – Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez will not travel to Paris on Thursday for the Coalition of the Willing meeting, after his official plane was forced to return to Madrid due to a technical breakdown, a government spokesperson confirmed to Euractiv.
Instead, Sánchez will participate remotely, joining other leaders such as Italy’s Giorgia Meloni who have also opted in virtually, the spokesperson added.
The incident was first reported by Spanish radio network Cadena Ser.
Following his first bilateral meeting in the UK with his counterpart Keir Starmer on Wednsday, Sánchez was expected to attend in-person the meeting chaired by France and UK.
The coalition is set to discuss drafting plans for a post-ceasefire reassurance force in Ukraine that would include putting troops on the ground.
