JERSEY will be represented at Dublin’s world famous Laytown Races this afternoon, as ‘St Ouen’, trained by Karl Kukk and jockeyed by Danny Mullins, will be competing at 4.30pm.
“St Ouen is in great from, he’s brilliant out the stalls and think he’ll be in the top three, maybe even a win,” said Kukk.
“Danny Mullins is a top jockey, and the horse is running well, so I’m confident we can get a result.”
Dublin’s Laytown Races are one of Ireland’s most unique racing traditions, as it’s the world’s only horse racing event held under official rules on a beach, making for a one-of-a-kind spectacle.
The local steed is said to have an edge in this contest, as St Ouen only trains at La Braye, with Kukk adding: “Training on sand is all St Ouen does, so we’re confident that our horse has an edge on this surface.”
St Ouen’s odds have changed throughout the day, currently sitting on 13/2 on Sky Bet at the time of writing.
This event has been pulling large crowds since 1868, with attendances exceeding 5,000 spectators each year, all enjoying six races, run over a mixture of six and seven furlongs.
Make sure to tune in, with the Laytown Races being shown on Racing TV, with St Ouen competing in the event’s first race, at 4.30pm.
