Jodie Comer has shared her excitement after details of a new project emerged. The 32-year-old Scouser’s takeover of the film industry continued this year with her starring role in smash hit success, 28 Years Later.

The former St Julie’s school pupil has never been one to rest on her laurels and she has now taking on a new genre for the first time in her career. It was reported by Deadline today that Jodie will star in a horror musical romance mash up named Stuffed. Filming will start this month in South Wales and will see Jodie play a taxidermist named Araminta.

Deadline reported the character harbours a secret ambition to stuff a human specimen. It added: “When she meets Bernie, a lonely man so afraid of being forgotten that he volunteers himself, their pact unexpectedly evolves into a haunting romance.”

Bernie will be played in the upcoming film by The Queen’s Gambit star, Harry Melling. Jodie has reacted to the news on Instagram as she shared a screengrab of Deadline’s report, along with a tearful emoji and the caption: “We’re making a musical.”

Although Jodie has appeared on the stage to great acclaim, she has never starred in a full scale musical before, so this new role represents an exciting career first.

The role is another example of how Jodie continues to fly the flag for Liverpool across the world stage. The superstar actor spoke to the ECHO earlier this year about how proud she is of her roots in the city.

She told the ECHO: “I just feel like there’s such an essence of ‘Scouseness’. There’s a familiarity, there’s a warmth, there’s a vivaciousness.

“There’s something about feeling who I am as a person. It’s in every part of you, it’s the way that you carry yourself. The way you communicate with people, it’s the laugh you’re able to have with people you work with.

“Not taking yourself seriously. There are so many things that I think of friends and family, or strangers that you meet from Liverpool. I don’t think that essence leaves you and it’s something I miss a lot when I’m not in Liverpool and you come home and you’re reminded of if straight away.

“Even when you get in a taxi, there’s a warmth and an honesty that I really appreciate about home.” After filming her Stuffed, Jodie will return to her home city for her most personal project yet.

The actor will bring the curtain down on the tour of her one woman play, Prima Facie, with shows at the Liverpool Playhouse Theatre from March 17 – 21. The show, penned by Suzie Miller, powerfully tackles themes of sexual abuse and Jodie’s powerhouse performance earned her a Tony Award back in 2023.

The actor told the ECHO it will be particularly emotional to end such an important chapter of her life in the city where her journey started, as she looks ahead to what comes next in her life as a global superstar.

She said: “Honestly, I’m so excited. I’m overwhelmed the more I think about it. I can’t wait to be in that theatre with the energy of everyone from the city. You feel such a support when you’re from Liverpool.

“You know everyone is so fearlessly proud of you and wants you to do well. So, to be in that theatre with that sense of encouragement and love, I’m so excited. I think it’s going to be raucous and I think it’s going to be special.”
