The Amgen Irish Open continues at the K Club on Friday.

Home favourite Rory McIlroy was among those to make a fast start in round one, but made a series of sloppy mistakes down the stretch.

The reigning Masters champion is attempting to win his national open for the second time in his career. 

McIlroy’s one and only Irish Open victory came at the K Club back in 2016, holding off the challenge of Bradley Dredge and Russell Knox to win the title by three shots.

He came very close to winning the tournament last year, narrowly losing out to Rasmus Hojgaard by a shot at Royal County Down.

Two of McIlroy’s Ryder Cup teammates are also in the field this week, with Shane Lowry and Tyrrell Hatton getting some reps in ahead of the showdown at Bethpage Black in four weeks’ time. 

Brooks Koepka has added some star power to the field. Sergio Garcia was going to play, but dropped out as a result of missing out on a spot in the Ryder Cup team. 

Garcia exclusively told GolfMagic his head wasn’t in the right place. 

McIlroy was handed an early start in round one, so is out in the afternoon on Friday. His group tees off at 13:00 BST.
