The 2-year old Withings ScanWatch 2 is now available in two new colors. Withings has also released an updated operating system that brings new and improved features to the hybrid smartwatch.

It has been two years since Withings announced the ScanWatch 2 hybrid smartwatch, and while some may be looking forward to a successor, the French company has chosen to release a new operating system along with two new colors for the wearable.

The new HealthSense 4 operating system replaces HealthSense 3 on the ScanWatch 2, bringing along new and improved features. Among the new features is what Withings calls a “Vitality Indicator”, which uses AI-based analysis of HRV, temperature, activity, oxygen saturation level, sleep quality, and respiratory rate to provide personalized warnings and tips for optimizing energy. This is similar to Garmin’s Body Battery feature.

HealthSense 4.0 also introduces improvements to sleep tracking. Withings says the watch can now better analyse sleep quality by tracking individual sleep phases, including REM sleep. Additionally, the ScanWatch 2 is reportedly capable of accurately tracking a user’s sleep respiratory rate as well.

The ScanWatch 2 also gets better at menstrual cycle prediction thanks to a new algorithm that uses changes in nocturnal body temperature to predict the phases of a menstrual cycle. Withings says this improved feature should be beneficial for those with irregular cycles or who are in perimenopause.

The watch will also be capable of early detection of potential illnesses, such as the flu, by monitoring temperature and heart rate variability. It can do this as a result of a feature called TempTech24/7, which can differentiate between body and ambient temperature using a combination of a heat flux sensor and a skin temperature sensor.

The Withings companion app has also been redesigned and now focuses on the metrics that matter to a user. The dashboard is customizable, allowing users to pin important health data. The app also highlights how different metrics are connected, such as physical activity and sleep, as well as sleep quality and energy level.

Withings didn’t say when the new OS will be available to users. However, it most likely should come pre-installed on the new Blue and Silver 42mm sizes. The new colors will be available starting today, September 5, for €349.95 and will come with a 3-month Withings+ subscription. If you don’t care for the new colors, you can score a deal by purchasing the ScanWatch 2 in any of the other colors from Withings for € 279.95 or in Black or Pearl White on Amazon.de for €276.
