Jos Verstappen has sparked a further feud with the father of Sergio Perez after the latter’s claims about Red Bull’s car.

Perez served as Max Verstappen’s team-mate between 2021 and 2024, helping Red Bull to two constructors’ championships but was dropped following a poor ’24 campaign in which he scored just 48 points in the final 18 races.

The Mexican’s contract was paid up and he departed for a sabbatical year in 2025, and will return to the grid in 2026 with Cadillac. 

However, his father Antonio has maintained that “if Checo had had the same car [as Verstappen], he would now be the world champion.”

This has drawn a response from Jos Verstappen on social media.

“What an idiot that guy is,” he wrote. 

“He’s always been given the same material, but just needs to step on the gas.”
