Ronan Keating leapt to assist fellow musician Rick Astley when he was hit by a severe coughing fit during a live appearance on The One Show.
The musical pair featured on Friday evening’s (September 5) edition of the BBC show to chat about their lengthy music industry careers.
During the early part of the programme, Rick could be heard coughing whilst his sofa companion Ronan discussed speculation surrounding a potential Boyzone comeback, with his condition deteriorating as the broadcast continued.
Following Keating’s admission that he took himself and his craft too seriously during his early career, hosts Lauren Laverne and JB Gill shifted their attention to Rick for his perspective.

“Can you connect with that Rick?” Lauren enquired, as he raspily replied: “I can yeah” whilst reaching for his water glass, reports Wales Online.
“I’m just having a coughing fit actually,” he revealed as he hunched forward on the sofa gripping his drink, which prompted Ronan to quickly move towards him and gently pat his back whilst holding his arm supportively.
“I’m fine,” he maintained, joking that he was simply “getting emotional” about the Boyzone performer’s story, which drew chuckles from the presenters.

Nevertheless, as he attempted to continue responding to their enquiry, he remained afflicted by a hoarse voice.
“I literally have just lost my voice,” he admitted, whilst Ronan swiftly provided him with additional water.
Trying to complete his response without coughing, he pressed on: “As you were saying having a song that means so much to you -” before another coughing spell interrupted him.
“I don’t know what’s happened to my voice,” he expressed, sounding alarmed, but managed to conclude his answer.
“Alright we’ll just let you get your voice back,” co-host JB intervened, while Lauren quipped: “You have a drink and a kick back.”
