Rail passengers are facing delays of up to two hours or cancellations on the west coast mainline out of Manchester following an incident on the line to Stockport earlier this evening (September 6).
Police officers were spotted at Levenshulme railway station where they were captured telling people the station was closed at around 7pm.
Tonight it emerged there were delays of up to 120 minutes and some cancellations on Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry and East Midlands Railway between Manchester Piccadilly and Stockport ‘due to emergency services dealing with an incident’, according to travel information service Inrix.
“Many services are cancelled or diverting,” it said.
Avanti West Coast tweeted: “Due to emergency services managing a situation between Manchester Piccadilly and Stockport, some lines are blocked. Trains heading through these stations may be delayed or cancelled. Some trains will also be diverted, failing to call at Stockport and Stoke-on-Trent.”
The train company added: “Ticket acceptance is in place with: @LNRailway between Crewe and London Euston. @CrossCountryUK between Stafford and Manchester Piccadilly. @tfwrail between Crewe and Mancheser Piccadilly. In both directions, until further notice.”
British Transport Police has been contacted for comment.
