Former Hull FC full-back Jamie Shaul has announced his second retirement, set to hang up the boots after one season with new League 1 outfit Goole Vikings.
He is one of seven confirmed to leave the club at the end of the year, alongside former Black and White Reece Dean. The playmaker is set to cross codes to rugby union, alongside former Hull KR outside-back Thomas Minns.
Shaul, who turned 33 in July, has called time on his career for a second time. Named in the 2016 Super League Dream Team, the full-back initially announced his retirement at the end of the 2023 season, having made 200 appearances for his hometown club, and scoring 102 tries.
However, the one-time England international returned to the sport – following a stint in rugby union – with Goole Vikings ahead of their debut campaign in League 1, linking up with former team-mate and head coach Scott Taylor.
The pair won the Challenge Cup together in 2016 and 2017 at Wembley, with Shaul scoring the winning try in the 12-10 triumph over Warrington Wolves in the capital.
Shaul was named vice-captain for Goole Vikings ahead of their inaugural professional season, and has gone on to make 11 appearances for the club after joining from Hull RUFC.
The League 1 outfit have also confirmed the departures of Mike Ogunwole, Joe Phillips, Andy Ellis and Ryan Wright, while placing on record their thanks for the contributions of Lennie Ellis, Leo Tennison, Neil Tchamambe, AJ Wallace, Junior Mafi, Jack Potter, Kye Armstrong, Zach Jebson, Jason Tali and Andre Savelio across the season.
