On Thursday we published a story about a 14-foot alligator captured in Mississippi just after the noon start of hunting season on Aug. 29. The gator fell just shy of the state length record for public waters.

But several massive alligators have been hauled from Mississippi waters during a brief but busy season that ends Sept. 8, and many have ended up at Red Antler Processing in Yazoo City.

Jones replied in the comments: “32 hours. 77 min. 92 seconds. To be exact.”

Mississippi Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks offers alligator hunting as a means of wildlife management.

The state length record is 14 feet, 3 inches, for a male gator caught in the Yazoo River in 2023. The weight record is 822 pounds, for a male gator pulled from the Mississippi River in 2015.

Male alligators are significantly larger than females.
