Scots Gogglebox star Roisin Kelly has opened up on the truth behind her and Joe’s ‘brutal axe’ from the Channel 4 show which returned this weekend for its 26th series without the fan favourite couple. Taking to TikTok for a ‘get ready with me’ video, the Glasgow born TV star discussed being let go from Gogglebox after three and a half years as she revealed what actually happened.
Roisin opened the video by saying: “Obviously Gogglebox was back on last night and we seen a lot of comments saying ‘where are Joe and Roisin’. We were ‘brutally axed’. We weren’t asked back to do series 26. They had just said they wanted to take the show in another direction, away from our house. There’s not really any lore or any stories to it.”
Roisin and Joe’s exit came as a shock to Gogglebox fans who branded their exit as an ‘insane’ choice. However, the Scots stars have remained fairly light-hearted about the situation as Roisin recently changed her Instagram bio to ‘brutally axed from Gogglebox’.
The pair are now being replaced by two brand new Scottish duos – Sisters Suzie, 70, and Rosie, 68 from Edinburgh and best mates Callum, 31, and Jake, 27, from Glasgow. They are among the five new families to be welcomed onto the Channel 4 show.

Roisin insisted there is no bad blood between her and Joe and the producers as she said: “We were good friends with all the producers and that’s the thing that’s sad. Firstly, you need to get over the ego part of like being booted off.
“I don’t know who made the decision. I think it was Channel 4’s decision but you don’t know who it was in Channel 4, you don’t know why, you don’t know the inner workings so there’s no point trying to like guess and go over and over it cos you’ll never know.
“We had an amazing time on the show. You need to be grateful for the opportunity. Not people can say they got to be on Gogglebox and watch TV for money.”

Addressing whether or not they will make a return to Gogglebox, Roisin said: “I mean I don’t think that’s an option.
“I get lots of questions about Gogglebox with people recently asking me if I could put in a good word for them. “
She jokingly added: “Not really no, if you find out who to ask, put in a good word for me as well. Free Joe and Roisin – bring us back.”
However, she revealed there is one other show that she and Joe now have their eye on, saying: “If anyone knows how to get us on Race Across the World, maybe we’ll do that instead.”
Roisin added: “there are a few articles saying we’re going into the jungle on I’m a Celebrity but I feel like sitting on your arse for three years watching TV in our case probably doesn’t qualify you for I’m A celeb but it’s nice to be included in the rumours.”
The beloved Scots duo revealed they had been axed from the upcoming series of the Channel 4 show at the end of July with a joint statement announcing their exit.
It read: “After three and a half years of sitting on the sofa, Channel 4 have decided it’s time for Joe and I to stretch our legs and have not asked us back for season 26. Therefore we are leaving the Gogglebox family.
“It’s been an honour to represent Scotland as some of the first Scottish people on the show and prove we don’t actually need subtitles.
“We have made friends for life and after filming every week for years you have become like our family! We could not have asked for better people to work with and we will miss you immensely.”
