Celtic are back on the training pitch as they prepare for Sunday’s return to action — but one moment from Lennoxtown has caught the attention of fans.

A short clip shared by Celtic TV showed Brendan Rodgers warmly embracing new striker Kelechi Iheanacho, as the pair reunited for the first time since their days at Leicester City.

The Nigerian forward, signed on a one-year deal after the deadline, looked delighted to be back under Rodgers’ guidance — and the feeling appeared mutual. Celtic’s manager grinned as he welcomed the 28-year-old, suggesting a familiarity and trust already in place between them.

Rodgers knows what Iheanacho can bring when firing. During their time together at Leicester, the striker delivered big goals — including during their FA Cup-winning season — and became a fan favourite for his instinctive finishing and tireless work rate.

This link-up couldn’t come at a more critical time. The dust is still settling from a chaotic transfer window where Rodgers was left frustrated, and the board’s statement over the weekend — distancing themselves from blame — did little to quell supporter anger. It came just hours after a senior Celtic source briefed against the manager in a national newspaper.

Fitness remains a question mark. Iheanacho hasn’t played regular football for months and will need to get up to speed fast. There’s no confirmation yet on whether he’ll be part of the squad for Sunday’s match, but fans will be desperate to see him in action sooner rather than later.

Given how thin the frontline has looked in recent weeks, there’s every chance he’ll be thrown in quickly — even if from the bench. But more than anything, the sight of Rodgers welcoming his former striker to Lennoxtown offered a small, welcome glimpse of togetherness in a week when unity at Celtic Park has looked in short supply.
