First of all is a six-furlong novice for two-year-old fillies (4.15). There are three debutants in the mix today; Data Fata Secutus, Supremissy and Gwen’s Girl. All may turn out to be useful, but with some improving types in the race with previous form, they are easy to look past.  Isle Of Fernandez drops back in trip for this having placed twice in novices over seven furlongs, and looks to be the market leader, while Anorah Unleashed should be of interest in first-time cheekpieces for Dr Richard Newland and Jamie Insole.

We stay with the two-year-olds for race two; a six-furlong nursery handicap (4.45). Boy Named Sioux makes his handicap debut and could be a revelation in this class for Richard Fahey, while Charlie Johnston’s Baggot Street should attract some attention in first-time cheekpieces, almost always the sort to run a good race. David O’Meara’s Popty Ping, though, looks a real danger, having proven her ability on softer ground at this track in June, and appearing to be on a workable mark.

Race three is a six-furlong handicap (5.15). Tim Easterby should have a good chance of a winner with Canaria Sun, who wears blinkers for the first time here having dipped down to a new low mark. Having run well over this trip last time at Pontefract, he’ll be dangerous if the headgear has the desired effect. Katie Scott’s Baby Rover shouldn’t be discounted either, after a very good run at Thirsk last time, and a movement back towards his last winning mark.

Next is a five-furlong sprint handicap (5.45). Both Chief Of State and Maris Angel carry a penalty for winning a week ago, therefore may struggle to perform to such a level again. Yazaman could be a danger, running off the same mark as when third of 11 last time out at Beverley, while Iain Jardine’s Zaphea could benefit from having recently had wind surgery.

The fifth race is a maiden run over a mile and three furlongs (6.15). Provision makes his racecourse debut, while Son Of Peace switches codes having been first seen in a bumper, while all the rest of the 11 runners have previous Flat form. The best on show might prove to be Sound Janet, who has placed twice from four starts on a variety of going, and she could have her day from stall one. Ralph Beckett’s Thosewerethedays, though, is sent a long way away to run here and steps up slightly in trip after two good runs over 10 furlongs. He should be the one to beat.

Our penultimate race is a mile handicap (6.45). Ben Haslam’s Volenti could be a good option here, having been beaten just half a length last time out at Pontefract and is on the same mark today. 10-year-old veteran Poet’s Dawn is now just one pound above his last winning mark, and the drop down in trip today is intriguing, but he isn’t as easy as Runninsonofagun to make a case for. This gelding stays at the same mark as his last two runs, both of which yielded a place, and he should be very competitive here.

Finally, we have a seven-furlong handicap (7.15). David Loughnane’s Exposay makes her handicap debut after winning a maiden last time out at Thirsk over this distance in similar conditions, so she ought to be a player. Craig Lidster’s Blufferonthebus also may be a contender, down to her last winning mark at a track she’s gone well at in the past for a trainer in form.
