A remake of one of SEGA Saturn’s most iconic releases, rails-shooter Panzer Dragoon II Zwei, will launch on the PS5 and PS4.
The game was announced some time ago by publisher Forever Entertainment, but finally appears ready for prime time. It’ll be playable at the Tokyo Game Show later this month.
No release date has been announced just yet, but the title will cost $24.99 when it eventually deploys.
Here’s what the official blurb says about it:
“Panzer Dragoon II Zwei: Remake is a refreshed edition of the second entry in the legendary rail shooter series, taking you into a unique world where ancient ruins, imperial power, and mysterious creatures shape the fate of an entire continent.”
A remake of the original Panzer Dragoon launched on the PS4 in 2020, attracting largely middling reviews. Critics largely complained about the price, length, and controls, so it’ll be interesting to see if those have been iterated upon for this sequel.

The press release mentions “modern graphics faithful to the original style” and a couple of control schemes, one adoption a more contemporary style.
Looking at the screenshots, the title seems to lose a little bit of its character when not presented using rudimentary polygonal shapes, but we’ll reserve judgment until we’ve seen it in motion.
For those who don’t know, Panzer Dragoon II: Zwei first launched in 1996 to rave reviews. It’s widely considered one of the best SEGA Saturn games ever made.
A third title, the RPG named Panzer Dragoon Saga, released on the SEGA Saturn in 1998.
Then a fourth entry, Panzer Dragoon Orta, launched exclusively on the original Xbox back in 2002. It’ll be interesting to see if either of these get remade next.
