England international and York Valkyrie star Sinead Peach has seen her disciplinary hearing following her viral red card adjourned.
Peach, a former Woman of Steel, was sent off in York Valkyrie’s defeat to St Helens with her red card quickly going viral given its unique nature.
As the Valkyrie conceded a penalty on their own line, the referee then blew up again and began addressing Peach with the conversation picked up on his mic and inadvertently broadcast.
The referee explained that he had made his decision and didn’t expect to be asked ‘which player he was shagging’, with Peach swiftly sent off.
She was later charged with a Grade E offence of questioning the integrity of the match official with her case set to in front of an Operational Rules Tribunal heard tonight.
Peach’s case was expected to be one of five heard tonight and whilst hers has been adjourned, earlier cases saw Jack Ashworth handed a seven-match ban and Franck Maria handed a five-match ban, with both men having entered guilty please. Salford’s Loghan Lewis also successfully appealed his charge as it was downgraded from D to B.
Viral rugby league red card disciplinary case adjourned
In an unexpected twist to the tale, Peach’s hearing will now be heard next week with further evidence expected to be presented.
An RFL statement confirmed: “Sinead Peach’s tribunal, following a Grade E charge of Other Contrary Behaviour in the Betfred Women’s Super League fixture between St Helens and York Valkyrie on August 31, was adjourned until September 17 to allow further evidence to be presented.”
York chairman Clint Goodchild had previously released a statement confirming Peach’s ‘genuine remorse’ for the comment.
Peach, 27, has five England appearances to her name with the first coming in 2016 but she has been in and out of the side with her omission from the 2021 Rugby League World Cup considered a surprise.
Given the adjournment of her case, Peach will be available for this weekend’s game against Leeds Rhinos.
