The large snake was found in Nether Kellet on Saturday and has been taken in by Greenlands Farm Village at Tewitfield near Carnforth.

Assistant manager George Wren said: “We’re not experts but we’re fairly certain it is a red tailed boa based on its markings.”

Typically a male can grow up to 2.4 meters in length while a female can stretch to three meters.

George said: “It was found on a backroad between Carnforth and Kellet where it was spotted by a cyclist. It’s quite an unusual sight so it got a lot of attention.

“From what we know, someone brave grabbed it, put it in a box and drove it on over to us.”

The snake is currently being kept safe in an off show room.

“This isn’t a permanent home and it will be going home tonight with our general manager who has experience with reptiles and has a proper vivarium and set up,” George said.

All the staff have handled it and it is clearly used to being held. It’s definitely not wild. Judging by the size of it, it’s been well fed and well looked after and is well loved.

“We were hoping it would be picked up today. Fingers crossed the family is just on holiday and will come home soon and realise it has escaped.

“It will stay with us until it can be reunited with its owners.”
