Celtic’s statement is still being ripped up by the fans.
Somehow, after a 2025 summer transfer window to forget, the powers that be at Celtic Park made matters worse by how they defended their business in a very wordy explanation.
There were many things to unpick from the statement, including the board pointing towards UEFA’s financial restrictions playing a part in how they were and weren’t able to go about things.
It’s fair to say, many associated with Celtic, as well as those from the outside, shot it all down, but if what the club said was true, then there was one thing missing.

You just know things are bad for the Celtic board when people with a Rangers connection are pointing out their flaws and making a good point of it.
Former goalkeeper Cammy Bell stated how Celtic’s mention of UEFA’s financial ruling was an ‘excuse’, but, in the case of their own argument, if what they said was true, then they would have ‘published’ figures.
Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Bell rightfully pointed out that, whilst that ‘excuse’ was put on the table, no numbers or even ‘a percentage of how close they are’ was put in their statement.
“There has been loads of criticism at the Celtic board, especially recently, with the way things have gone,” said Bell.
“Going out of the Champions League. There was criticism for that. Then, you directly look at the transfer (window), and probably point out that the reason why they went out of the Champions League was purely down to not getting the players in they needed to get over the line.
“When you look at the sustainability figures, as I said, if Celtic were close to it, I think they are clever enough and they would have published that figure, whether it’s a percentage or how close they are to that 70%.
“They haven’t said that. They have just used it as an excuse. We all know the transfer policy hasn’t been good enough. There have to be questions asked.”
A lot has happened since the last time Celtic fans heard from Rodgers. From the window closing. That statement. And the supporters then issuing a ‘no confidence’ vote about the board.
The Celtic manager will face his usual press conference on Friday, but he will also do an interview for Sky Sports, given that the trip to Rugby Park to take on Kilmarnock will be broadcast live on Sky.
Don’t be surprised if Rodgers sits on the fence and perhaps protects those on the inside from the outside, because Celtic have another title to defend, and he will probably gain very little from adding fuel to the fire.
