The new cell phone waiting lot is now closer to the Albuquerque Sunport terminal and comes with new features, including big video boards and bathrooms.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Albuquerque International Sunport unveiled its redesigned, relocated and modernized cell phone waiting lot Friday.

The Sunport cell phone waiting lot is now directly north of the main terminal building and adjacent to the Sheraton hotel. The new lot cost $3.29 million – but didn’t require any taxpayer money.

The lot includes two 15-by-25-foot flight information display boards, benches and tables, two indoor restrooms and 24/7 video surveillance. It also has 20% more parking than the previous lot, including three EV charging spaces and an accessible charging space expected to be completed in 2026.

“The Sunport’s new waiting lot is another step toward enhancing our world-class airport that reflects the pride, hospitality and forward-looking spirit of Albuquerque,” Mayor Tim Keller stated.

The new lot comes as the Sunport is also renovating its terminal. Local eateries, like Indian Pueblo Kitchen and Rush of Prana, and national chains, like Panda Express and Dunkin’, are now open in their new spaces.
