Former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was spotted at Ipswich Town’s Championship clash against Sheffield United on Friday night.

The ex-United manager, who was recently sacked by Turkish Super Lig club Besiktas following their disappointing start to the season, was captured by the Sky Sports cameras at Portman Road during the match.

Blades’ boss Ruben Selles is under pressure, having lost the opening five games of their Championship campaign – after narrowly missing out on promotion last season.

Sheffield United were defeated 2-1 by Sunderland in the play-off final last year, parting ways with manager Chris Wilder following that disappointing defeat and it’s been a torrid start to the season for the new Blades manager.

The Tractor Boys made light work of Sheffield United this evening, too, winning 5-0 with a hat-trick from Jaden Philogen, a Jack Clarke finish and George Hirst strike, which leaves the Blades rock bottom of the division.

Solskjaer’s appearance at Portman Road prompted some speculation online, suggesting the former United boss could be a contender to take over at Bramall Lane if Sheffield United parted ways with Selles.

However, there’s likely a more simple explanation. Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna is also a former Manchester United coach and was actually part of Solskjaer’s backroom staff during his time as Old Trafford boss.

McKenna and Michael Carrick were promoted to assistant coaches under Jose Mourinho and they stayed with the club following his departure and Solskjaer’s appointment.

The pair are close friends from their time at Old Trafford, with McKenna leaving United in 2021 for Ipswich. He’s since helped guide the Tractor Boys from League One up to the Premier League last season – but his side were relegated back to the Championship this summer.
