The Rangers hero was on punditry duty at Rugby Park as the Parkhead club took on Kilmarnock when he said: “The highlight of the first half for me was not having to hear the Celtic fans sing for the first 12 minutes.”

The travelling fans didn’t enter the ground for the opening stages in protest against Celtic’s board.

Meanwhile, Rangers‘ hierarchy remains behind Russell Martin, and no board meeting is scheduled for the coming days.

Martin was asked if he would resign after the Hearts defeat.

He simply replied: “No.”

He added: “We have a lot of new guys in there.

“We have a lot of players trying to feel their way in an environment that’s really difficult to feel their way into their Rangers career.

“Really, really difficult.”
