Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined's Characters Are Based on Real-Life Models 1

The late Akira Toriyama’s art is a huge part of the Dragon Quest franchise’s appeal. But not everyone loves the look that’s been adopted in upcoming remake Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined.

Now in a new video presented by series creator Yuji Horii, it’s been revealed that Square Enix actually created real-life models of the Hero, Kiefer, and co which it subsequently scanned into the game.

This is all in an effort to create a “diorama” style look.

Elsewhere in the video, the developer reiterates that the release will be much more approachable, with some content trimmed or tweaked in order to scale back the RPG.

If that sounds frustrating or disappointing to you, then just keep in mind that the original PS1 release is estimated to take around 80 hours to beat – and somewhere in the region of 170 hours if you aim to do everything. A bit of streamlining can’t hurt.

One other detail mentioned in this video is that characters will now be able to learn two “Vocations”, meaning you’ll be able to mix and match different jobs for a more personalised playstyle.
