Castleford Tigers

Castleford Tigers’ Innes Senior could potentially miss the remainder of the Super League season due to the injury he picked up on Sunday, Chris Chester has said.

The Tigers held firm to beat Warrington Wolves at The Jungle to claim their first win since the sacking of Danny McGuire. While Castleford remain in 10th, with the play-offs well out of reach with eight games to go, the result was an important one in terms of morale, with it being their first success since beating Hull FC in June and just their fifth win all season.

It came at a price, though, with Senior having to be helped from the field in the closing stages of the contest. The centre injured himself while trying to prevent Stefan Ratchford from scoring and was unable to continue.

Speaking after the game, Chester, who continues to serve as the club’s director of football while also picking up the head coach reins on an interim basis, shed some light on the issue.

Castleford Tigers injury update

“It looked like an ankle dislocation,” he said in his post match press conference. “I’ve not had too much of a chat with the medical people but it looked like it had dislocated and gone back in.

“We’ll get it scanned and there were other guys who came off the field a little bit battered and bruised. It’s a next man up mentality and it gives an opportunity then to people that played in the reserves yesterday.

“It’s very unfortunate for Innes, I thought he did some good stuff today but we’re not too sure how long that’s going to keep him out.

Pushed on whether that could be his season, Chester added: “It could potentially be, yeah. I’m not too sure but we’ll know more over the next couple of days.”

The Tigers have a little under two weeks to wait until their next game, with a trip to St Helens waiting for them in round 20. As such, Chester is keen for his side to make the most of the break as they look to end the season on a high.

“I just said to the boys that we don’t fall in love with ourselves,” he added. “We’ve had one win.

“At the end of the day we’re still in 10th spot and that gap between us and Warrington has tightened up a little bit. The key message is don’t fall in love with ourselves.

“We’ve got two or three sessions this week, they’ve got a little bit of down time and time off and then we’ve got to hit the ground running again next Monday.”
