One of North Staffordshire’s busiest roads is to be resurfaced. The latest phase of the £1.4 million Wetley Rocks works will see the A520 resurfaced between the Plough Bank junction and the Texaco petrol station.
The work starts on Monday 15 September and is expected to run until Friday 26 September. A signed diversion will be in place via the A52 and A523.
But the resurfacing of a further section of the road – between the Plough Bank junction and Spring Cottage – has been delayed due to Openreach cables being too close to the road surface.
The scheme is being delivered by Staffordshire County Council. Crews are also resurfacing footpaths as well as fixing damaged drainage, kerbs and ironworks.
Councillor Patrick Allen, cabinet support member for highways north, said: “Works are progressing well on this important scheme in the Staffordshire Moorlands. It’s one of many schemes taking place across the county and part of wider investment to improve roads right across Staffordshire.
“Having been to the site on a number of occasions and spoken to the crews, I know their priority is to get the work done as quickly as possible. They’ve also been keen to keep residents informed of any changes to the works and it’s good to hear the positive feedback from the local community.
“It’s unfortunate that we’ve had to postpone some of the resurfacing but once Openreach has fixed the problem with the substandard depth of the cables, crews will be able to resurface the final section. Once again, we thank people for their co-operation throughout the scheme.”
