Unity 101 Community Radio, which aims to amplify diverse voices, made this move after Ofcom granted it a ten-year extension to its broadcasting licence.

This move introduces the multi award-winning station to a new audience in the town.

Unity 101 is known for its mix of local news, music and community voices and serves as a platform for Asian and ethnic communities across the south.

The expansion allows listeners in Poole and other parts of Dorset, as well as Hampshire, to tune in easily.

The station has also undergone a studio refit to ensure better broadcast quality.

Station manager and founder Ram Kalyan “Kelly” said: “It’s an exciting time for Unity 101.

“The new studio brings us into the next phase of community broadcasting – and with DAB, we can now reach audiences across a wider regional area.

“We’re still the same trusted voice, just on a bigger stage.”

Run entirely by volunteers, Unity 101 has provided a platform for Southampton’s Asian and ethnic communities for nearly two decades.

It broadcasts programmes in Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Polish, Mandarin and Tamil, alongside English language shows.
