Sony generally leaves no more than a few days before the announcement of a show and it taking place, so confirmation on Tuesday, 23rd September seems likely. This means the showcase would line up with the Tokyo Game Show, which takes place next week.

Original Story: Sony has hosted either a major State of Play or a PlayStation Showcase every September for the past six years, and it doesn’t look like that’s about to change in 2025. Reports over the past couple of weeks have suggested the PS5 maker has something in store between now and the end of the month, and now the incredibly reliable leaker NateTheHate has said their piece on the matter.

In response to a user on social media, NateTheHate simply said: “Sony has a presentation soon.” This is assumed to be a State of Play livestream, as Giant Bomb member Jeff Grubb suggested last month that Sony is leaning that way over using the PlayStation Showcase branding.

Rumours from other parts of the Internet suggest that the long-awaited Marvel’s Wolverine shall be the highlight of this showcase. It’s speculated to be releasing in 2026, and a proper unveiling is imminent. Saros from Housemarque could also appear during the digital show, as the developer confirmed the PS5 exclusive will be seen again before the year is out. Then there’s the rumoured 2.5D God of War game, which would be another major announcement.

Any first-party reveals would be accompanied by the usual third-party news and announcements. What do you want to see at the next big PS5 livestream? Share your wishlist in the comments below.

Liam grew up with a PlayStation controller in his hands and a love for Metal Gear Solid. Nowadays, he’s found playing the latest and greatest PS5 games as well as supporting Derby County. That last detail is his downfall.
