Irish boxer Dylan Moran has called time on his professional boxing career following his defeat to Tyrone McKenna last weekend.
Moran and McKenna faced off for a second time after their December clash last year, with McKenna once again emerging victorious as the contest was stopped in the seventh round.
The fighter, who holds a 19-4-0 record, revealed the news via social media, stating that he had ‘lived the dream’.
“Since turning professional many years ago I have lived the absolute dream had some years of my life that I’m very grateful for all because of boxing,” he shared on social media.
“All of that being said with time everything changes I knew in the build up to this I wasn’t going to box again afterwards and that love that got me out of bed in the morning was gone and after spending the last two nights in hospital worried sick confirmed that for me.”
Moran revealed that becoming a father had transformed his priorities, explaining he had ‘become civilised, I guess’ and wanted to focus on being a ‘good dad and a good partner’ as he outlined his reasons for walking away from the professional ranks.
The boxer paid tribute to his mother, describing her as ‘the reason I am the man I am today’, whilst confirming he would remain connected to the sport through coaching.
McKenna responded on Instagram with words of respect, posting: “Legend dylan was a pleasure to share two incredible nights with ya. Hope you have success in whatever you do.”
Meanwhile, Michael Conlan offered his congratulations, writing: “Congrats on a great career mate, all the best in your next adventures.”
