It looks like Marco Tilio has found a home in European football.

The Australian winger was signed in the first transfer window of Brendan Rodgers’ second spell at Celtic, after a standout season at Melbourne City.

Tilio found first-team opportunities limited at Celtic Park, with rumours suggesting that the move was agreed before Rodgers’ arrival.

After making just two substitute appearances in the first half of the season, Tilio returned to Melbourne on loan for 18 months, where he rediscovered top form after fighting to regain his fitness.

And after reintegrating with the Hoops squad this summer, he moved to Rapid Vienna in Austria on a permanent deal, where he has now spoken after opening his account.

Ex-Celtic man Marco Tilio is loving his time in Vienna

Tilio didn’t get a real crack at European football in his time at Celtic, and his move to Vienna will be an opportunity to correct an unsuccessful period in Glasgow.

And after entering the field as a substitute against WSG Tirol, Tilio scored his side’s fourth in a 4-1 win at Allianz Stadion.

Speaking to the club’s official YouTube channel after the game, Tilio said: “It was amazing. For my competitive debut at home, I’m really delighted to get on the scoresheet.

“I was at a promo on Tuesday and told fans that hopefully Sunday’s my first goal, because they were asking.

“It’s an amazing city, I’ve been able to go into the city a couple of times now and I’m still getting used to it I think – it’s obviously a far way away from home.

“But I’m really enjoying it, and I’m loving my time so far.”

Tilio will be in European action too this campaign, with Rapid competing in this season’s UEFA Conference League.

Can Marco Tilio replicate Nicolas Kuhn’s impact at Rapid Vienna?

As a left-footed right winger who wants to take players on, Tilio will remind Rapid fans of another ex-Celtic man in Nicolas Kuhn.

The German spent 18 months at the club after joining from Bayern Munich, spending the same length of time in Glasgow before his summer move to Como.

If Tilio can make a similar impact to Kuhn, he’ll be a happy man. He will be working under former Borussia Dortmund manager Peter Stoger.

Shortly before Tilio’s arrival, Rapid beat Dundee United on penalties in the Conference League qualifiers, breaking the hearts of Jim Goodwin’s side.
