DAZN announced today that next month’s heavyweight interim title clash between Joseph Parker and Fabio Wardley will run viewers a cool $59.99 on top of their standard DAZN subscription.

This is a very nice card in a vacuum; in addition to the main event, which pits the resurgent and battle-tested Parker against one of the bigger hitters in the division, the co-feature between Denzel Bentley and Endry Saavedra figures to produce quality action as well. This is not, by any stretch of the imagination, an event that merits this sort of paywall. It’s especially galling when there’s already another PPV that same evening between Sebastian Fundora and Keith Thurman on Prime Video.

I just cannot grasp the thought process here. Parker is by all accounts a popular figure in his native New Zealand, but there’s no way Parker’s or Wardley’s fanbases are sufficiently rabid to make this a profitable venture.
