Iga Swiatek has been part of many big matches throughout the 2025 season as the world number two.

Swiatek lost in the quarterfinals of the US Open to eventual runner-up Amanda Anisimova in her most recent tennis match.

However, the six-time Grand Slam champion was not 100% fit, as Swiatek struggled with a foot injury that prevented her from practicing much.

Swiatek’s coach has named his favourite match of hers this year, but she has not even placed it inside the top five.

Swiatek fell to her lowest ranking in three years back in June after failing to win a title in over a year.

Despite this when asked to name her top five favourite matches from the 2025 season, Swiatek picked three matches from the first half of the year.

In fifth, Swiatek picked her comeback win over Madison Keys in Madrid, where she lost the first set 6-0.

Swiatek won Wimbledon to end her title drought in July, and she has placed her semifinal victory over Belinda Bencic in fourth.

Then going back to the start of the year, Swiatek put her win over Elena Rybakina at the United Cup in third, before picking her Roland Garros victory over the Kazakhstani in second.

There could really be only one match that she put in first place and that was Swiatek’s 6-0 6-0 win over Anisimova in the Wimbledon final.

When reflecting back on that match, Swiatek claimed it was her best ever match on grass courts, which is a surface she has previously struggled on before this year.

“I think it was the best match I have ever played on grass,” said Swiatek. “The way I handled the pressure because I was stressed before the final and also the day before, waiting for this last match. I came on court with a clear vision of what I want to do and how I want to finish the tournament.

“I used all the experience I had from my last matches at Wimbledon and made it work. And obviously I’m proud I won Wimbledon!”

Iga Swiatek’s route to the title at the Korea Open

Despite her struggles with a foot injury, it has not taken Swiatek long to return to the WTA Tour as she has entered the Korea Open.

The tournament in Seoul has been heavily disrupted due to rain, but Swiatek is now confirmed to play tour-veteran Sorana Cirstea in the second round.

Swiatek is unlikely to feel threatened by playing Cirstea, as she has won all five previous meetings against the Romanian.

Some of the other threats to Swiatek at the Korea Open this year include Emma Raducanu, Barbora Krejcikova, Clara Tauson and Ekaterina Alexandrova.

There may be another motivation for Swiatek playing in Seoul, with Aryna Sabalenka’s withdrawal from the China Open meaning that she now has an opportunity to close the gap on the world number one.
