Following the Washington Open, the first ATP Masters 1000 event of the North American hard-court swing will get underway.

So far, several big names have already pulled out of the tournament, including Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

Jack Draper also withdrew, citing a left-arm injury he sustained during his Wimbledon campaign, which ended in the second round.

While many will now have a golden opportunity to boost their rankings in Toronto, one star will see their tennis journey come to an end.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Vasek Pospisil announced his tennis career will finish in Toronto.

Pospisil said: “Eighteen years of professional tennis. Looking forward to playing in front of you one last time in Toronto”

The Canadian will play for one final time in front of his home crowd, who have never seen a star from their country emerge victorious at the event.

Milos Raonic came close in 2013, reaching the final before losing to Rafael Nadal, who won the tournament for a third time.

Pospisil reached the Wimbledon quarter-final in 2015, where he lost to former champion Andy Murray in straight sets.

A year prior, however, he won the doubles title at the All England Club alongside his partner Jack Sock.

In 2015 and 2016, Pospisil made it to the quarter-finals in doubles at Roland Garros and the Australian Open, respectively.

He reached a career high singles ranking of 25 and a doubles peak of fourth in the world.
