Aston Villa were without new signing Victor Lindelöf for their Carabao Cup third-round clash against Brentford on Tuesday night.

The 31-year-old joined Villa on deadline day on a free transfer, following the expiry of his contract with Manchester United earlier this summer.

He made his debut for the club in the latter stages of Villa’s 0-0 draw against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday.

Playing in midfield, Lindelöf filled in for Emery in the final moments of the stalemate, with Lamare Bogarde having tired late on.

Villa were also without Youri Tielemans, who was substituted at half-time, as well as Boubacar Kamara, Amadou Onana, and Ross Barkley.

Now, Lindelöf has become the latest player to pick up an injury, as Emery confirmed following the club’s penalty shoot-out defeat to Brentford.

“It is a small injury, but maybe in a few days he will be available again,” he explained. “Today he was not.”

Villa were boosted by the return of Kamara to the squad for the clash against Brentford, while Emery is hopeful that Tielemans will be available for selection within the next fortnight.

Onana has been sidelined with a hamstring injury in recent weeks, and Ross Barkley is currently dealing with a personal issue.
