Your heart is about to melt. This sweet baby yak can’t find his mom and tries searching for her, only he doesn’t really know how to do that yet. (If you don’t know what a yak is, picture a really fuzzy cow.)

In this heartwarming video, we see a cute little muffin walking around while his human narrates him looking for yak mom. She’s just around the corner behind the barn, but the little guy has never been out before and doesn’t know how to find her.

Luckily, his human jumps into the rescue (and gets a pretty funny reaction out of the beastie).

Commenters absolutely delighted in watching the not-so-little baby go on a quest to find mom — and headbutt his person in the process. “His little calls are so heartwarming! Love him,” exclaimed @lostnthelyrics. Another poster quickly pointed out that Mama Yak also makes us go, “awww.” @agnesmiller548 stated, “OMG!!!! Who is cuter the baby or the mom?????” Living Stone Ranch, where mom and baby both live, replied that they think baby wins this one.

Others tried to get into the mind of Yak Jr. with @outdoorgirl524 envisioning, “‘Excuse me, sir, what do you think you’re doing?’ Is what I imagine the baby saying lol. SO CUTE!”

How do animal moms talk to their babies?

Interestingly, animals often have special “voice” for their babies, just like we do. Everything from penguins to dolphins to yes, yaks, will call their offspring as a way to communicate. They often use the “mom voice” to warn about danger or bring the young back into the herd.

In response to “motherese” as it’s sometimes known, the baby will reply back. That’s why this little yak knew to yell out for mom. In this case though, it was his human dad that responded.
