Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Tron Ares) is headed out to sea with the survival movie Here Be Monsters, and Deadline reports this afternoon that Paramount has acquired the project with “franchise ambitions.”

Deadline details, “Acquired in a competitive auction, Here Be Monsters becomes the latest big franchise-able IP to be acquired by the studio since Skydance took over.

“They asked to keep the content specifics under wraps, other than to call it an intense survival thriller at sea reminiscent of films like Alien and The Thing.”

Speaking of Alien, Ridley Scott is on board to produce Here Be Monsters via Scott Free.

Joachim Rønning wrote the screenplay with brother Andreas Rønning. Deadline notes, “The latest revisions of the script are from Noah Harpster and Micah Fitzerman-Blue.”

Joachim Rønning is also the director of 2019 sequel Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.
