If Choo-Choo Charles was your thing, Unreal Fusion Games’ upcoming Maja Island is looking to scratch that same itch. Rather than working build up resources to kill a monstrous train, Maja Island instead sees you trying to escape a remote island by facing off and taking down the eponymous monster.
Really, much like Two Star Games’ indie hit, there’s not a heck of a lot of story for Maja Island. You are trapped on a remote island, and you’re looking to leave. The problem is, the lamprey-like Maja is lurking beneath the surface, and will make quick work of your boat if you set sail. As a result, you’ll need to gather resources from around the island, upgrade your boat, and take the monster down before you can finally sail away.
To upgrade your boat, you’ll find “scraps” by exploring and or completing missions, and use them to upgrade your boat. Your boat is your lifeline, so you’ll need to keep it strong. Complicating matters is the fact that others have attempted to escape the island, and the results of those failed attempts to take down the creature has left them a bit hostile.
Despite that, you’ll need to collaborate with the remnants of the science team on the island to acquire new weapons and vital tools for destroying Maja. Victory depends on whether you’ve gained enough skill, strength, and firepower to take it down.
No release date has been announced for Maja Island as of yet, but you can wishlist it on Steam.
