The next game from Ori and the Blind Forest dev Moon Studios is already available in Early Access on PC, but it’s already been announced for PS5 and will come to Sony’s console when it’s complete.
It’s a change in approach from the Austrian studio, as up until this point it hasn’t released any of its games on a PlayStation platform. The two Ori games were eventually ported to the Nintendo Switch, but not the PS5 or PS4.
Writing on Discord, ever-outspoken CEO Thomas Mahler set tongues wagging earlier today when he implied his company’s next game could skip Xbox entirely, due to market conditions.
He wrote:
“Given current market conditions, we might only release on PS5 and potentially Switch 2 for the time being. We’ll have to discuss with Microsoft to see what makes sense for Xbox.”
After these comments went viral, Mahler clarified on X (or Twitter) that he expects the game to launch everywhere eventually, but that “just looking at the numbers, PS5 makes the most sense at the moment”.
We know that PS5 has sold over 77.7 million units to date, while the Xbox is estimated to be less than half that. Switch 2 only just launched, but is already off to an impressive start and will likely catch up relatively quickly.
There’s nothing to officially confirm yet.
We want to support consoles and just looking at the numbers, PS5 makes the most sense at the moment.
Ultimately we’ll ship on all platforms, but likely not at the same time!

Meanwhile, there’s also been a lot of commentary about Xbox’s ability to sell software outside of Game Pass. While we don’t have any hard data on that, it’s not uncommon to see games selling significantly better on the PS5 due to its larger install base and reduced emphasis on subscription services.
It’s perhaps worth noting that there may be some animosity between Microsoft and Moon Studios, after one report claimed that the pair had split over toxic workplace allegations which had been aimed at Mahler and his company.
But looking at the CEO’s comments, it seems he just considers PS5 to be a better bet these days in terms of potential addressable audience.

For what it’s worth, No Rest for the Wicked has been attracting rave reviews on PC for its stunning artwork and hardcore Diablo-esque isometric gameplay.
Here’s how the official blurb pitches it:
“Hone combat skills with a system that challenges you to be deliberate and strategic. Battle against gruesome creatures, enemy soldiers, and punishing bosses in tense, visceral combat. Feel the weight and speed of each weapon through their own move sets. Enchant armaments with runes, craft rare armor, and create bespoke character builds that fit your playstyle. Prepare for an intense combat experience where every enemy encounter can feel like an epic duel.”
Is this a game you’re planning to pick up on PS5 eventually, and are you excited to see Moon Studios make its PlayStation debut? Let us know in the comments section below.
