Angel, the “addicting” and dark spinoff series to Buffy the Vampire Slayer with plenty of 2000s nostalgia, has landed a new streaming home in the UK.

Starring David Boreanaz in the titular role as Angel, the show follows the vampire as he relocates from Sunnydale to Los Angeles.

In LA, Angel meets a stranger named Cordelia Chase (Charisma Carpenter) who experiences painful visions of those in need.

The synopsis reads: “The vampire Angel, cursed with a soul, moves to Los Angeles and aids people with supernatural-related problems while questing for his own redemption.”

The show is now available to stream on Prime Video in the UK, meaning Buffy fans can binge-watch all five seasons this spooky season. The series is also available on Disney+ in the UK.

Joining Boreanaz and Carpenter on the cast are stars including Alexis Denisof, J August Richards, Andy Hallett, Amy Acker, and James Marsters.

Created by Joss Whedon, who created Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and David Greenwalt, Angel ran between 1999 and 2004.

Audience reviews on IMDb are mostly glowing, with one calling it “the best show ever”, adding that Angel is “emotional and addicting”.

“Angel had a strong cast and characters. It was dark, but also fun and witty. The only knock I have is the lack of compelling villains,” penned one viewer.

“One word: Fantastic. It sums up Angel perfectly, it is that rarity, a spin-off show that is better than the series that it came from and that really is saying something. Everything about this show is perfect. The casting, the writing, the directing, the special make-up effects, I can’t say enough about it,” wrote another.

“I admit that some of the initial episodes are a little 90’s-esque and can be cheesy, but if you love horror, sci-fi, and amazing characters and storyline, the rest is just a bonus,” reads one audience review.

“I really liked the idea of taking everything that’s Buffy and making [it] for an older audience, it’s a really good idea and Joss implemented it perfectly with Angel,” penned another.

Angel is streaming now on Prime Video and Disney+ in the UK.
