Leigh Leopards

Leigh Leopards have officially secured the services of Gareth O’Brien for another season, with the half-back penning a contract extension with the club. O’Brien has agreed a one-year extension with the Leopards, to keep him at the club until the end of the 2026 Super League season.

The 33-year-old has been with Leigh for three seasons now, joining from Castleford Tigers ahead of the 2023 campaign, and he has now made 75 appearances in all competitions.

Of those outings, 25 have come this season with the stand-off dovetailing with Lachlan Lam and helping Leigh to a third place finish.

And, as the club prepare to take on Wakefield Trinity in the first round of the Super League play-offs, O’Brien’s new deal has been announced.

Serious About Rugby League has launched a brand new podcast which can be watched in full on our YouTube channel here.

“I’m buzzing that my contract is finally over the line,” the former Warrington Wolves, Salford Red Devils, Toronto Wolfpack and Castleford man said. “Another 12 months! The club is growing year by year and I honestly believe that we are getting stronger through our recruitment.

“Winning the Challenge Cup in my first year was my highlight so far. It’s something I’ve wanted since I was a little kid, to play in the big games. Now I want to win a Grand Final. On our day we know we can beat anyone.”

Club owner Derek Beaumont added: “Gaz is a great guy and important to us. He puts his body on the line and when he plays well Lachlan Lam plays even better.”

Leigh Leopards have a number of contracts still to announce this season including O’Brien’s half-back partner Lam, who is believed to have agreed to stay on at the club beyond the end of the season.
