Andy Murray has spoken for the first time about Emma Raducanu’s Wimbledon mixed doubles drop-out and has shared his true feelings after the tennis snub.

Back in 2024, the 22-year-old denied Murray a final match at the All England Club after withdrawing from their scheduled first-round encounter, citing a sore wrist.

With her fourth-round singles match on Sunday afternoon against qualifier Lulu Sun, Raducanu did not want to take any risks, but she was unable to progress to the quarter-finals.

The former US Open champion received plenty of criticism, with Judy Murray branding the decision “astonishing” before insisting on Sunday that she was being sarcastic.

Raducanu shrugged off the intervention, saying: “I’m sure she didn’t mean it.”

Now reflecting on the incident for the first time, Andy Murray told The Times: “We exchanged multiple messages since Wimbledon, and things were fine after we cleared everything up.

“It was obviously a pretty emotional time for me and everyone around me, so it was hard, but like I said, I was really happy with the way that my career finished.”

He added: “I got to play my last match at Wimbledon with my brother.

“Emma’s not someone that beforehand we were communicating all the time or discussing ideas about her game and things like that, so that hasn’t changed.”

Speaking previously on her choice to drop out, Ms Raducanu said: “Obviously (he was) disappointed because it’s his last match.

“Of course, I didn’t want to take his last match away from him. But, at the end of the day, I think a lot of the players in a similar situation would have done the same thing.”
