The World No.1 stands as the beacon of hope but a darkness is descending over Bethpage BlackScottie Scheffler teeing off in front of raucous fans
Superstar Scottie Scheffler was slapped with boos after missing a crucial putt during the foursomes at the 2025 Ryder Cup.
The world No.1 stands as the beacon of hope for the hosts but the four-time Major winner is up against it alongside partner Russell Henley against the brilliance of Ludvig Aberg and Matt Fitzpatrick.
And it’s been anything but straightforward as Scheffler and his partner slipped three behind on the sixth as the home fans crudely coughed up boos aimed at their main man – hours after targeting Europe’s leading lights.
The 28-year-old missed from nine feet and there was no such error from Fitzpatrick who gladly received the chance to win the hole for Europe.
There’s a palpable sense of fear at Bethpage Black with the star man’s early woes feeding into the belief that Scheffler couldn’t afford to lose early if USA were to assert any dominance over Luke Donald’s side.
And news of Tommy Fleetwood and Rory McIlroy smashing Collin Morikawa and Harris English filtered through the course and added extra pressure on the pair behind them.
