Saturday Kitchen presenter Matt Tebbutt has been on the popular BBC cooking show for many years, but he’s still managed to upset guest Richard Osman

Saturday Kitchen host Matt Tebbutt received a playful telling-off from guest Richard Osman on today’s (27th September) episode of the beloved BBC show.

This week, Osman appeared as the programme’s celebrity guest ahead of launching his newest Thursday Murder Club novel, The Impossible Fortune.

During their chat, Matt asked a somewhat cheeky question, enquiring of the bestselling writer: “Do you never… do you first and foremost think about what the character would do naturally?

“Or do you ever want to play with it and go, ‘Do you know what, I don’t care what people think about what happens to Joyce. I’m going to take it in this direction’?”

Osman swiftly shot back: “How dare you suggest I wouldn’t care what people think about what happens to Joyce!”, reports the Express.

The writer flashed the host a mischievous grin whilst Tebbutt rescued the moment with laughter.

“Okay, I didn’t dress that up!” he confessed as Osman playfully scolded the Saturday Kitchen presenter.

“That is the worst thing you’ve said today,” he joked. “And you’ve said some bad things.”

The novelist then elaborated on his creative approach, revealing he doesn’t plan as extensively as some fans might expect.

“Genuinely, in my head and my heart they’re very real,” he revealed. “So, actually, a lot of the time they lead me.

“They’ll say something and the plot becomes different. I don’t plan my plots at all.”

Tebbutt joined in, exclaiming “That’s quite renegade!” as Osman carried on: “Lots of people don’t, lots of writers don’t.

“It’s more fun. If I’m taken by surprise then hopefully readers are taken by surprise as well.”

Osman’s latest addition to his popular murder mystery series, The Impossible Fortune, has just landed on bookshelves following the controversial Netflix adaptation of his initial Thursday Murder Club novel.

The fifth instalment sees our elderly amateur detectives pulled back into investigative action after a year’s hiatus when Elizabeth unexpectedly comes across a distraught wedding guest who urgently requires their assistance.

Saturday Kitchen airs Saturdays from 10am on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
