Zebre’s progress was dented three minutes later when number eight Giovanni Licata’s yellow card for a dangerous tackle on Ewan Ashman was upgraded to a 20-minute red.

In his absence, flanker Liam McConnell squirrelled over from behind a maul and number eight Magnus Bradbury touched down in the corner, with fly-half Ben Healy’s conversions levelling the scores.

However, Zebre were back ahead at the break after Simone Gesi burst through the middle to touch down and give Da Re an easy conversion.

Scrum-half Alessandro Fusco sniped over from close range five minutes after the break, with Da Re on target again, to extend the lead.

However, opposite number Ben Vellacott plunged over and, with Healy also successful from the tee, the gap was down to seven points with 30 minutes to play.

Pitinari’s 64th-minute yellow card left the home side under pressure, but it was not until four minutes from time when replacement hooker Paddy Harrison went over from behind a maul, with Healy levelling the scores.

However, Farias was to have the last word with his boot.
