With the opening of Leonardo DiCaprio’s new action thriller, One Battle After Another, Warner Bros has set a record for the year. They become the first studio to cross the $4billion mark at the global box office this year.

The last time they enjoyed this success was in 2019 with 20 theatrical releases. This time, they have achieved the same success with only 11 theatrical titles. Key additions to the success were James Gunn’s Superman and the new Minecraft Movie starring Jack Black.

They have been leading at the box office throughout the year, as nine Warner Bros movies throughout 2025 have opened to sit at number one. In total, it enjoyed 15 weeks at number one both stateside and worldwide, as reported by Deadline.

More specifically, the studio’s total earnings are made up of $1.795billion in domestic earnings and $2.2billion in international earnings. It made further history as seven consecutive films made more than $40m at the opening box office, a feat no other studio pulled off.

Ryan Coogler’s vampire tale Sinners and Brad Pitt’s F1 have proved that original stories can still make waves at the box office. On the scarier side, Zach Cregger’s Weapons made $264m worldwide against a $38m production budget. The Conjuring: Last Rites also became the highest-grossing installment in the spooky franchise.

The number will only grow, as the weekend is expected to bring in another $45m from Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another. Far Out gave One Battle After Another a glowing four-star review, writing: “Revitalising old stars and launching new ones, it does it all there too, as every single element of this movie, every person and every detail, feels masterful. It’s a Hollywood romp that has been through the rigours of arthouse attention to detail and intention to stir.”
