While Manchester United endured another dismal day with a Premier League defeat to Brentford, one young star continued to forge himself a stellar reputation.
Harry Amass found himself thrust into an even more testing environment than he may have faced at Old Trafford this term when he moved on loan to Sheffield Wednesday, a club whose existence has appeared threatened this season with a number of financial difficulties over the summer.
While the Owls are set for a difficult campaign in the Championship, they only sit above local rivals Sheffield United at the moment, Amass has impressed in his early outings and is on the way to making the left flank his own. Wednesday drew against Queen’s Park Rangers on Saturday, with Amass drawing plenty of plaudits for his performance.
The 18-year-old had an exciting outing as a wing-back and even earned the free kick that led to Wednesday’s goal. Local press were impressed by his efforts.
Stuart Rayner of the Yorkshire Post said: “His twinkle toes and one gorgeous pass down the line impressed.”
The Star’s Chris Holt also spoke highly of the talent. He wrote: “Excellent. Such a clever footballer, you can see the Premier League academy background coming out in him and the defensive work that Pedersen said he’d been working on this week.
“Did well to win the free kick that led to Wednesday’s goal. A little quieter in the second half.”
Amass drew praise from his Sheffield Wednesday team-mates on Instagram too. Former Aston Villa midfielder Barry Bannan said: “Very, very good, you gonna be a player the boy.”
Gabriel Otegbayo commented : “So good!!” George Brown added: “Serious stuff.”
Jamal Lowe offered a clear message. “Thank you Carrington,” he posted.
