Police said the driver of the van was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving

A woman has died after being hit by a Tesco delivery van in Bangor, Gwynedd. North Wales Police said the crash happened on Garth Hill this afternoon [Monday, September 29].
The force said they were called by the Welsh Ambulance Service shortly after midday following reports of a crash involving a female pedestrian and a Tesco delivery van. For the biggest stories in Wales first, sign up to our daily newsletter here.
The emergency services attended the scene including the air ambulance and the road was immediately closed, the police force said.
A spokesperson added that despite the best efforts of everyone involved, the elderly pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her next of kin and the coroner have been informed, the force said. The 33-year-old driver of the van has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and he remains in police custody.
The road remained closed while officers from the forensic collision investigation unit carried out their initial enquiries. According to North Wales Police, the road has now been reopened.
In a statement, Sergeant 3162 Evans of the roads crime unit said: “Our thoughts remain with the woman’s family and friends at this difficult time.
“We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the pedestrian or the vehicle in the moments leading up to the incident to contact us as soon as possible.”
