Rathbarry Stud are delighted to announce the acquisition of Grade 1 winner Unquestionable, one of the best 2-year-olds sired by the outstanding Wootton Bassett.

Unquestionable was never out of the frame in six starts for Aidan O’Brien as a 2-year-old, with his highly successful juvenile campaign capped by a win in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita.

In a measure of how well-regarded the son of Wootton Bassett was throughout at Ballydoyle, Unquestionable made his debut in listed company in the First Flier Stakes over five furlongs at the Curragh, where he defied his inexperience to finish third. From there, he returned to the Curragh to break his maiden over six furlong in impressive fashion, making all for a near five-length success under a hands and heels ride from Ryan Moore.

Unquestionable held his own at the top level thereafter, with a game second in the Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp preceding his brilliant win in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita. Sent off the short-priced favorite in a typically strong field, Unquestionable showed an outstanding turn of foot to run down the leaders and win going away.

Following the race, Aidan O’Brien commented: “He’s a very tough horse who we’ve always had a lot of faith in. He won very well in the end. He did everything right in the preparations going into the race, so for him to go and win is brilliant.”

Unquestionable is a son of Wootton Bassett, who sadly died this week. Currently the leading sire by prize-money in Europe, Wootton Bassett is well regarded as a source of 2-year-old speed and is already a proven sire of sires.

Unquestionable is out of the Sea The Stars mare Strawberry Lace and a member of the famous Best In Show family via the branch responsible for proven G1 sires Bated Breath and Cityscape.

The Best In Show family has produced numerous successful stallions, among them Redoute’s Choice and El Gran Senor. Other G1 winners from this family include champions Almond Eye, Arcangelo, Idiomatic, Peeping Fawn and Rags To Riches.

“We are delighted to add G1 winner Unquestionable to our roster” said Paul Cashman. “A very good-looking horse, he was a precocious 2-year-old who held his form throughout his successful juvenile campaign. He’s supported by one of the best families in the stud book and we are confident that he will add to the legacy of his much-missed sire Wootton Bassett. We look forward to supporting him strongly.”

A fee for Unquestionable will be set at a later date.
