Carlos Alcaraz was unable to win a third consecutive Wimbledon title after being beaten in the final by Jannik Sinner.
Alcaraz was taken aback by Sinner in the Wimbledon final, which was his first Grand Slam final defeat of any kind.
Despite the disappointment of losing the final, Alcaraz was full of generous words towards Sinner after the match.
This is the first time that Sinner has beaten Alcaraz since 2023, and now the Spaniard has explained why he thinks he lost the match.

After losing the Wimbledon final, Alcaraz headed to his post-match press conference where he was asked about what he thought the cause of his defeat to Sinner was.
Alcaraz denied any physical issues as the cause for his defeat, and instead praised Sinner’s game and particularly highlighted his opponent’s second serve return.
“I did not feel down physically during the match, it was all about he was pushing me to the limit in every point,” explained Alcaraz. “Mentally it’s really tough to maintain the good focus and good level during the whole match when you see the opponent playing such great tennis.
“At some points I did not know what to do, because from the baseline I was feeling he was better than me and I could not do anything about it.
“The big key was about the second serve. He was returning my second serve really well and thanks for that he was in position to attack the second ball every time so it was really difficult when you feel you are defending all the time and running from side to side, but I did not feel down physically at all.”
Carlos Alcaraz service stats in the Wimbledon final vs Jannik Sinner
Alcaraz has received a lot of praise for his serve during the grass court season this year, including his title win at Queen’s and run to the Wimbledon final once again.
Despite hitting 15 aces past Sinner, there were also some weaknesses on show as Alcaraz’s first serve percentage was down at 53%.
Alcaraz highlighted Sinner’s second serve return as one of the key reasons why he lost that final, and that is supported by the just 51% of points he won on it.

This defeat has seen Alcaraz’s 24-match winning streak come to an end, as he now looks to rebuild for the North American hard court swing.
Alcaraz is next scheduled to compete at the Canadian Open in Toronto, which gets underway on Monday, July 28.
